Hay Certification

Teton County Extension Agent, Mark Major, and Adminstrative Assistant, Rhea Brutosky, are certified to administer the Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage Program on behalf of the Montana Department of Agriculture. In 2008, they certified over 1800 acres in Teton County. The cost for this program is $2.50 per acre with a ten-acre minimum.

We encourage you to notify us seven (7) days before you need your hay certified, so that we have time to plan an inspection. We will need access to the field and a contact name and phone number. After the field(s) have have been inspected, we will notify you of the results. All hay must be standing for in order to be certified as Noxious Weed Seed Free. Hay that is already cut when we arrive will not be eligible. You must tag or use twine for certified hay. Tags are available from the Teton County Extension Office for $7 for a bag of 100. Twine can be purchased for $33 per bale.
