Teton County Extension

The MSU Teton County Extension Office serves the citizens of Teton County and citizens of our neighboring counties. The responsibility of the MSU Teton County Extension office is to provide education and leadership in programs related to family and consumer science, agriculture, youth development and community enhancement.
Teton County is located in north central Montana with the western border being the Rocky Mountain Front and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area and the eastern border being the rolling prairie east of I-15. The county includes approximately 6500 residents.

Mark Major was born and raised in Kaysville, Utah. The youngest of four children, he frequently worked cattle and hay ground on the family farm with his brothers and father. He attended school at Utah State University and received a degree in Agricultural Systems Technology. He also met and married Carolyn, his wife. Mark did his graduate work at the University of Nebraska receiving a degree in Mechanized Systems Management.
Before arriving in Teton County, Mark worked for the Extension service in South Dakota. He has taught numerous courses, including: grain and livestock marketing, geo-caching, weed control and ID, Quicken, Excel, pesticide sprayer calibration, renewable energy, and shelterbelts for adult audiences. For youth, he has taught: orienteering, wilderness survival, cowboy action shooting, livestock quality assurance, irrigation management, and animal carcass quality. He resides in Choteau with his wife and four children.

Jane Wolery has been serving the citizens of Teton County since 1998. Prior to that time, she was an extension agent in Sheridan County, Wyoming. Before becoming an extension agent, Wolery taught in Hinsdale, Montana. During her five years in Hinsdale, she taught 7-12 family and consumer science and served as the K-12 school counselor. She holds a bachelors degree in home economics and a master’s degree in counseling. Wolery attended University of Montana, Montana State University in Bozeman and Northern Montana College in Havre. She was raised on a farm 30 miles north of Joplin, Montana.
Wolery continually looks for opportunities that challenge her professionally and that enhance her knowledge to serve the people of Teton County. Of her Extension career, Wolery says, “Teaching is one of the most rewarding professions. As an Extension Agent, I have been given such a great variety of ways to teach others – from formal classrooms to 4-H campgrounds. It is always my hope that what I teach will have a dynamic and positive effect on people.”

Rhea Brutosky is a Teton County native, who puts her strengths to use serving residents of Teton County. Brutosky aids the Extension Agents in their programs throughout the county and state. She is the “numbers” go-to person for the office. She is the chief book-keeper for the Teton County Extension Office. Brutosky has a background in education, as she served many years as a math tutor. Brutosky’s talents are used in providing extra assistance in agriculture related fields. Brutosky assists with insect identification, the shelterbelt tree program and nitrate testing on forage. She is a fundamental part of the services provided by the Teton County Extension Office.
Brutosky works 32 hours each week for Teton County Extension. When she is not working for Extension, you can find her working for the Teton County Planning and Weed Department.

Jamie Smith moved to Teton County in 1995. She was raised in Great Falls, Montana and is very familiar with Northcentral Montana. Smith brings her talents of art, creativity and love of the written language to her position as administrative assistant. She is the primary person in charge of the administrative duties of the 4-H program – from ordering curriculum for projects to organizing the intricacies of the Teton County 4-H Fair. Smith’s background includes elementary education and computer network support. Smith enhances the extension team with her skills and perceptive abilities for working with people.
Smith works 32 hours each week for Teton County Extension. When she is not working for Extension, you can find her at her other job as library assistant or “story hour lady” at the Choteau Public Library.
