Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Solid Finances Series?

Sold Finances was created to address the financial education needs of working adults.  Each of the 16 sessions focuses on a different financial management topic.  Participants are encouraged to attend all of the sessions but welcome to attend only the sessions they are interested in or are able to attend.  At the end of each session participants should have an increased ability to make informed financial decisions about that specific topic.

What topics will be covered?

The series will cover 4 topics with 4 workshops per topic.  The topics are Money Management, Investments, Retirement and Estate Planning.

When is the program held?

The program is offered in two formats.  First, traditional in person workshops are offered on the campus of MSU-Bozeman. Click here for the Bozeman schedule.  Secondly, all of the workshops are offered in a webinar format.  All of the webinars are offered at noon, click here for the detailed webinar schedule.

How can I participate?

If you are in Bozeman, feel free to attend the in-person workshop held at MSU.  If you are unable to attend the Bozeman workshop, several communities are hosting a group webinar viewing site.  Click here for a list of host locations and contact information about room locations. If neither of these options fit into your schedule, you can also participate in the webinar directly from your computer. Click here for information about how register (no cost) to participate in these sessions.

What does it cost?

It is a free program.  MSU Extension, MSU-Bozeman Human Resources, Satellite Location Hosts and the FINRA Foundation are providing financial support to allow Solid Finances to be a free program.

What if I missed a session?

You can watch a recorded version of any session you missed by clicking here.  Handouts from the session are also available at each scheduled link.

Why should I (or my employees) attend?

The benefits of Comprehensive Workplace Financial Education were recently documented by the University of Minnesota Extension. (/www.extension.umn.edu/financialsecurity/benefits.html#employers) The benefits to employees include: improved confidence in their ability to make the right financial decisions (both for themselves and their aging parents), improved understanding and utilization of employee benefit programs, reduced stress and provided employees with a reality check with respect to retirement issues.  The report also documents the benefits to employers and the community
