PONDS IN MONTANA

YOU CAN BUILD A POND FOR YOUR PROPERTY

pondPonds are very popular for some Montana landowners. These can be decorative ponds near the home or large ponds that are stocked with fish. Prior to constructing a pond, do your homework and find a quality contractor that knows how to design ponds for your purposes. Montana is an arid state. Ponds will evaporate water at a rate that can vary from 1.5 inches to 2.3 inches of water every day. Your water source will need to be capable to refill the evaporation loss.

Another loss of water can come from infiltration of water into the soil holding your pond water. There are now some excellent pond liners that will prevent infiltration. Obviously, you need to hire a contractor who knows how to line a pond and prepare the surface for a liner. A liner with a small rip in not a good investment.

On the right bar of this page are a few links to various pond building resources.
