Extension
Lake County is situated in northwestern Montana. The majority of the county lies in Mission Valley, with portions in the Swan and Jocko Valleys. Polson, on the southern end of Flathead Lake, serves as the county seat. Other towns in the county include Ronan, home of the extension office and fairgrounds, St. Ignatius, Swan Lake, Pablo, Charlo, and Arlee. Much of Lake County includes major portions of the Flathead Indian Reservation, home of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. The county has a population of 28,600, several community based school systems and hospitals in Polson and Ronan. The county includes many beautiful natural resources, including Flathead Lake, the second largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River, and numerous mountain ranges.
