Cropping Seminar
Montana State University Extension Service will be holding the annual series of Cropping Seminars in the Triangle January 18-21. This program will be worth six private pesticide applicator credits in most locations. You do not need to possess a private applicator license in order to attend. Speakers and topics for the seminars are as follows:

Dr. Kent McVay, Cropping Systems Specialist, Southern Agriculture Research Center (SARC), Huntley – Local Cereal Grain Variety Trial Results and Crop Rotation Studies
Dr. Jack Reisselman, Crop Consultant and retired MSU Plant Pathologist - Plant Diseases
Cecil Tharp, MSU Extension Pesticide Specialist - Integrated Pest Management Strategies for Cropland Insects
Jeannie Olmstead, Toole County Extension Agent - Pesticide Safety
On Monday and Tuesday (Great Falls, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank), Dr. Jane Mangold, MSU Extension Rangeland Weed Specialist will be presenting information on weed control in non-crop areas, specifically cheatgrass. On Wednesday and Thursday (Chester, Fort Benton and Denton), Tom Allen, Chouteau County Extension Agent, will be discussing soil fertility and various fertilizer applications. On Wednesday (Shelby only), Jim Elliot from Bayer Crop Science will be presenting information on cheatgrass control and new pesticide products from Bayer. At all locations, local Extension Agents will be presenting information on calibrating hand and four-wheeler sprayers.
There is no charge for the seminars, and all producers are encouraged to attend. Please pre-register so we can have a good count for lunch. All seminars will start at 9:00 am. The dates, locations, private pesticide credits, and contact numbers are listed below.

Landowner Energy Education Program

Do you have questions about wind energy development? Do you wonder about the role of Montana in the biofuels industry?
This program will focus on issues driving renewable energy in the U.S. over the next few years. Updates regarding biofuels, small wind development, and key landowner issues for commercial wind development will be provided. Speakers will be Joel Schumacher, MSU Extension Economics Associate Specialist, and Sarah Hamlen, MSU Extension Area Economic Development Coordinator. This program is free of charge and open to the public.
