Goals and Objectives

  • Solidify a strong Statewide Wood Energy Team that implements a collaborative, strategic approach to biomass energy development.
  • Develop wood energy projects that expand markets for woody biomass generated from forest management projects on federal lands including national forests, and state, private and municipal lands.
  • Increase awareness of, and interest in, biomass as a viable energy option across a broad spectrum of
    sectors and scales.
  • Improve social acceptance of wood energy.
  • Implement outreach/communication campaign to promote clean residential wood burning in
    targeted airsheds.
  • Expand knowledge and skill-sharing among wood energy experts, users, and interested parties.
  • Identify and employ new financing mechanisms for projects.
  • Expand geographic cluster(s) of projects.
  • Maintain staffing capacity and momentum of DNRC's Wood Energy Program.

Anticipated project outcomes, accomplishments and desired results:

  • Strengthen Statewide Wood Energy Team with a strategic and collaborative approach to developing wood energy projects in the state.
  • Complete at least 2 new installations of commercially available biomass systems by the end of 2017.
  • At least 1 biomass system under construction or installed at a resort/lodging facility as a high profile demonstration.
  • Increase interest in biomass as a viable energy option across a broad spectrum of sectors and scales.
  • Improve social acceptance of wood energy.
  • Expand knowledge and skill-sharing among wood energy experts, users, and interested parties.
  • Identify and employ new financing mechanisms for projects.
  • Expand geographic cluster(s) of projects.
  • Maintain staffing capacity and momentum of DNRC's Wood Energy Program.
