Presenter: Marsha Goetting, Montana State University-ExtensionDuring this session Dr. Marsha Goetting will discuss the elements of a Montana common law marriage from an estate planning perspective. After the death of one party there may be confrontations between the “surviving spouse” of a perceived common law marriage and the deceased person’s other heirs--children, grandchildren, parents and/or siblings. Learn how these conflicts could be prevented and how to avoid court costs and attorney fees from a contentious court case to determine the existence of a common law marriage.
