Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Workshop for Trainers, Educators and Producers

MSU Extension is pleased to co-sponsor a Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Workshop for Trainers, Educators and Producers, September 9-11, 2014, in Bozeman. GAP for Produce is a food safety initiative and some food vendors are requiring Montana producers to have a farm food safety plan and/or be GAP certified. Featuring foremost national GAP Program trainers, Dr. Betsy Bihn and Ms. Gretchen Wall of PSA at Cornell University, the workshop will help produce growers and GAP trainers understand food safety risks that may exist on the farm, how to conduct a risk assessment of their own farm, and how to devel­op a written farm food safety plan.  Days 1 and 2, primarily focusing on growers’ needs,  will address GAP worker training, agricultural water, wildlife management, soil amendments, postharvest water, packinghouse cleaning and sanitation, traceability, regulatory updates (FSMA), and how to write a food safety plan mandatory/voluntary third party audit basics.  Day 3 will be a Train-the-Trainer Workshop with more in-depth subject matter related to GAP and FSMA, pertinent GAP education resources and information for delivering GAP grower trainings.  The training is FREE for growers and trainers and some travel reimbursement will be available from sponsors.  Training location is Bobcat Stadium, 2nd Floor Corporate Room, with a room block at the Comfort Inn (406- 587-2322) reserved for participants. Due to long delays, certification will not be available for this training.
